TIMELINE OF EVENTS
1979
Krypton’s core becomes unstable. Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van send their infant son Kal-El away in a space pod in hopes of sparing him from Krypton's inevitable destruction. The pod's warp drive transports Kal-El into our solar system, where it eventually crash lands in Smallville, Kansas.
Kal-El is found by Jonathan and Martha Kent, who adopt him and name him Clark Kent.
1983
Kal-El's powers manifest at age 4. Jonathan and Martha teach their son to keep his powers a secret.
1994
After years of questioning his superhuman nature, Kal-El is shown the space pod he crash landed in. Jonathan tells his adopted son as much of the truth of his origins as he can.
1995
Driven by his desire to know more about himself and his extraterrestrial origins, Kal-El leaves Smallville and travels north, guided by a crystal taken from his space pod.
When Kal-El reaches the Arctic Circle, the crystal buries itself in the ice and forms the Fortress of Solitude.
Upon entry into the Fortress, Kal-El is greeted by a holographic simulacra of his birth father Jor-El, who imparts upon his son the knowledge of his Kryptonian heritage.
Kal-El begins his training with Jor-El, learning how to harness the power of the sun and master his superhuman abilities.
2004
Jonathan and Martha Kent are killed by a drunk driver, prompting Kal-El to return to Smallville.
Kal-El mourns the loss of his adoptive parents, and when he returns to the Fortress, Jor-El tells him to go back to Smallville, reconnect with the world, and figure out why he wants to help humanity. Jor-El gifts his son a suit made of programmable matter that proudly displays the crest of the House of El.
Despite his initial desire to help humanity, Kal-El grows resentful because of the circumstances that claimed the lives of his adoptive parents. The drunk driver is acquitted of his crimes, which doesn’t sit well with Kal-El.
Kal-El confronts the drunk driver and comes close to using his super strength to beat him to death, but stops before he can land the first (and likely fatal) blow.
Kal-El decides to work on the Kent farm, which was left to him by Jonathan in his will.
2006
A metahuman terrorizes Metropolis. Despite his resentment toward humanity, Kal-El is spurred into action by memories of Jonathan Kent’s teachings: “If you have the power to help someone, help them.” Kal-El dons his Kryptonian suit and stops the metahuman threat.
The world comes to know of Kal-El’s existence. He earns the name ‘Superman’ from an article in the Daily Planet, written by Lois Lane.
Kal-El spends nearly two decades saving the world, while feeling he’s never a part of it. He never leaves the Kent farm to move to Metropolis, choosing instead to till the land and be a contributing member of Smallville as Clark Kent when he’s not off saving the world as 'Superman'.
2023
The Department of Defense informs Kal-El of a signal they received from the furthest reaches of space that could be Kryptonian in origin.
Kal-El sets off to space in a pod from the Fortress of Solitude to investigate.
Something goes wrong with the warp drive in Kal-El’s pod, and instead of traversing through space, he ends up tearing through space and time, and crosses the threshold of the omniverse, crash landing on a parallel Earth.
